John Sowles is the Exam Development and Psychometrics Manager at Ericsson, Inc., located in San Jose, California. John is responsible for the development, quality and performance of over 45 exams that make up the Ericsson Technical Certification Program (ETCP) and has been instrumental in the implementation of new and innovative strategies and ways of working, such as, implementing Candidate and Proctor Agreements, Item Writer Agreements, Online Proctoring and Electronic Badging to ensure the security and verification of exams, credentials and the overall certification program. He has also developed an internal proctor training program which is used to train Ericsson proctors around the globe to securely proctor Ericsson exams. Additionally, John has also been a member of the ITCC Securing Certifications Task Force since 2015.
Before joining the certification team at Ericsson, John had 20+ years of experience in New Product Introduction at Nortel, which involved beta testing and analysis of new software and hardware (pre-release) in live customer environments. Responsibilities included working as a liaison between customers and the internal development team to understand and correct issues found during deployment in order to improve the overall quality of the product prior to its general release.
In his personal time, John enjoys spending time outdoors hiking, zip-lining, whitewater rafting, and splitting firewood. He is also a volunteer for the Santa Clara County Sheriff Search and Rescue team.
